This drawing above was the first step. Next week comes the template. The inlays are beautiful pieces of Lake Superior agate, the official state gemstone. The picture on the right is of the kitchen that will be its final home. Stay tuned for more to come!

We got it! The highest stain resistance, plus the natural look and feel that we are known for. We have been working at getting a perfect finnish by spraying alone (with really good results). However, it has proven to be nearly impossible to achieve, so now we hone and/or polish it out to perfection. It’s a lot of extra work, but we won’t compromise.

There have been a lot of changes recently at Zen of Concrete, this blog included. We moved into a new shop at the beginning of the year. Its ideal for us with plenty of room to expand into, a great space with high ceilings and lots of lighting. It was originally set up for auto body painting, so it has a large spray booth, perfect for our HVLP applied sealer. With the preexisting 180 gallon air compressor, we commonly have several tools running off it at once, even when spraying. The large service doors and forklift are perfect for loading up our countertops when its time for for installation.
In addition to our new shop there are many changes in our process’s and in our products. We can now create concrete in jet black and navy blue. Also, every piece we create is now reinforced using fiberglass or carbon fiber, in some cases both. In addition to new color options and reinforcement techniques we are experimenting with a new custom mix made of 97% recycled material, more to come on that!
